Hats cause baldness...truth or myth?

Hats cause baldness!  I am sure you have heard that a thousand times from your mother or grandmother.  Their goal was to get you to take your hat off.  Is it true that hats cause baldness?  The answer is no, it is just a myth, old wives tale, strategy to get you to take it off at the dinner table.

It is almost impossible for hats to cause baldness as our hair grows from the root which is enclosed in the follicle.  The follicle is under the skin on our head and is feed by our bloodstream.  If one is lacking in certain vitamins or minerals, thinning or excessive shedding and hair loss will be apparent.  Some may try and attribute it to the hat, but it really has nothing to do with it.

Hats cause baldness is not true but wearing a hat especially in the sun can actually be quite beneficial.  The hair will protect the scalp and a healthy scalp is critical to long term hair care.  If you start to experience significant hair loss or thinning, your best bet is to leave your hat at home and go see your doctor to find out exactly what is causing your hair to fall out.
